Dachverband der Geowissenschaften –
Umbrella Organization of Geosciences in Germany
About
DVGeo was founded in 2015 in Berlin by the four biggest geoscientific societies: German Geological Society (DGGV), German Geophysical Society (DGG), German Mineralogical Society (DMG), and Palaeontological Society (PalGes). DVGeo represents more than 6,600 geoscientists and is situated in the Museum of Natural Science Berlin. The umbrella organization aims at representing scientific topics to Society and Politics, transferring knowledge and promoting geoscience research.
Topics
DVGeo has influenced the legislative procedure on the Cultural Property Protection Act (2016) and on the new Geodata Law (2019-2020) by providing comments and participating in hearings.
Furthermore, DVGeo has successfully organised two symposia for stakeholders, scientists and interested parties in Berlin on the search for a repository for highly radioactive waste, a highly important topic.
The third symposia "Disposal of highly radioactive waste - European strategies and experiences" will take place as an online event on September 9th.
As coming topic DVGeo will address "climate change" together with the major scientific societies in chemistry, physics, biology and mathematics, based on a longterm and close cooperation with those societies.
Global Mentoring
Actually DVGeo supports Global Talent Mentoring being an online mentoring program for developing talents in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medical sciences (STEMM).
